Plan

After an earthquake it  will cause major destruction such as broken infrastructure, no food food supplies, no medicine and no shelter. We have plans for the victim to help them have a sustainable life.

Our short term plan is:

After a major earthquake people will donate food supplies and medicine.  There are also organization such as PMI and SAR. They will provide first aid and shelters(tents) and team SAR they will evacuate the victims. Food will be given by donator from around Indonesia. They give enough food supply for short term and the PMI will give enough medicine for sick people.  The are also volunteers from nearby city will help them by cooking them food  also each victim will help each other.

Long term plan:

For long term plan the volunteer need to tell knowledge to the victims. Such as what to do when the earthquake happens and  basic knowledge of surviving. The volunteer should suggest jobs that they can do to find money.  The money donation should be used to  make new building to make the economy better.  The victims also can help building the infrastructure. Each victim should do according what they can do best maybe there are some farmers the could try to make new farm using the money donated. Maybe there are some people that are creative than can create bags, pencil case and etc. They could make that their job until they can have sustainable economy. Then after building new infrastructure the Government should make more jobs available so that the victims could start a new life.

TIPS when an earthquake has happened or will happen

Before earthquake we should:

• Make sure you have a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, a battery-powered radio, a flashlight, and extra batteries at home.

• Learn first aid.

• Learn how to turn off the gas, water, and electricity.

• Make up a plan of where to meet your family after an earthquake.

• Don't leave heavy objects on shelves (they'll fall during a quake).

• Anchor heavy furniture, cupboards, and appliances to the walls or floor.

Learn the earthquake plan at your school or workplace.

During earthquake we should:

• Stay calm! If you're indoors, stay inside. If you're outside, stay outside.

• If you're indoors, stand against a wall near the center of the building, stand in a doorway, or crawl under heavy furniture (a desk or table). Stay away from windows and outside doors.

• If you're outdoors, stay in the open away from power lines or anything that might fall. Stay away from buildings (stuff might fall off the building or the building could fall on you).

• Don't use matches, candles, or any flame. Broken gas lines and fire don't mix.

• If you're in a car, stop the car and stay inside the car until the earthquake stops.

• Don't use elevators (they'll probably get stuck anyway).

After earthquake we should:

• Check yourself and others for injuries. Provide first aid for anyone who needs it.

• Check water, gas, and electric lines for damage. If any are damaged, shut off the valves. Check for the smell of gas. If you smell it, open all the windows and doors, leave immediately, and report it to the authorities (use someone else's phone).

• Turn on the radio. Don't use the phone unless it's an emergency.

• Stay out of damaged buildings.

• Be careful around broken glass and debris. Wear boots or sturdy shoes to keep from cutting your feet.

• Be careful of chimneys (they may fall on you).

• Stay away from beaches. Tsunamis and seiches sometimes hit after the ground has stopped shaking.

• Stay away from damaged areas.

• If you're at school or work, follow the emergency plan or the instructions of the person in charge.

This blog was created on 13/12/2009. This blog has some recommendations about how to relieve a natural disaster after a place has been hit so sturdily. This blog also has some plan that can be done by people from everywhere. The plan can be done by the government or even my other groups of people that offer help. This blog can also be just a general knowledge about earthquakes and the relief plans.

The markets and stores were damaged.

As the tsunami hit Aceh, all these places were damaged due earthquakes and followed by the tsunami. As a result, people are losing their jobs, places to live, food, shelters, wealth, etc. People are having difficulty to move from the position. Some of them even have to face a real different life. When they used to be rich, they become poor. Moving out of this position can be hard, therefore they always need supports. Supports can be done through donations, helpers and other NGOs (Non-Governmental Organization), churches to come and plans to relieve the place. Some of them even had lost their hopes to work. They lost their crops, land fields and all these burdens they have to face. By building more job fields, the survivors can start to make money out of their abilities. This will ensure that they will produce money and at least try to move from their hard situation.

 This picture shows the areas where earthquake could happen. As you can see, Indonesia is surrounded by the Ring of Fire, that is why there are a lot of earthquakes in Indonesia.

What is an Earthquake?

  A sudden and violent shaking of the ground, sometimes causing great destruction, as a result of movements within the earth's crust or volcanic action. 

 

Causes and Effects of Earthquakes

1st Cause: An earthquake is caused by the tectonic plates that are moving to each other. An earthquake can happen if it is linked to explosive volcanic eruptions. Volcanic eruptions usually happen in places that are part of the Ring of Fire.


2nd Cause: However, an earthquake can also happen because of the tectonic activity with the plate margins and faults. Earthquakes seem to happen more often due to the tectonic activities rather than if it is linked to explosive volcanic eruptions.

Example: In this case: Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam is a special city located in the island of Sumatra.  Aceh was hit by a tsunami that was caused by an earthquake.

Effects: As a result of the tsunami in Aceh, the city and buildings were destroyed and many people lost their homes and lives. Many people lost their occupations and thought that there is no point of life. They seemed to not be able to survive after the natural disaster has hit.

Involvement of both outside and inside help/resources (Government, NGOs, volunteers, and the community themselves

The involvement of outside and inside is that the people who are the victims will tell to their government what they need in order to survive and stay healthy. Then the government will send the supplies and ask help from other places such as NGOs and volunteers. Usually media asks the victim what they need and then it will be published on the media, so then people can donate. When the donation comes the victims will work together to rebuild their village and help each other.
